State Grant Moves Memorial Field Project Forward

State Grant Moves Memorial Field Project Forward
$300,000 grant a key piece of capital stack

The renovation of Memorial Athletic Field Complex – the lynchpin of the Village’s Lindy Avenue Corridor development – received a huge boost recently with word that the State of Ohio has awarded Lincoln Heights a $300,000 grant for the project.

The Complex, named in honor of five Village residents killed in the Vietnam War in 1968, originally served as the all-purpose arena for the former Lincoln Heights High School. Although that school closed in 1971, the field has remained a central gather place for the Village. It has deteriorated due to a lack of funds for proper maintenance and upkeep. A revitalized, state-of-the-art Complex will complement the nearby Princeton School District; drive an increase in youth baseball, softball, football, soccer; and promote more family recreation and leisure activities.

The Complex will also anchor the Lindy Avenue Corridor – the geographic center of Lincoln Heights and the focus of the Village’s development efforts. The Corridor will allow the Village to capitalize on investments being made in advanced manufacturing by state and local governments as well as private companies along I-75 and neighboring communities. These developments include Evendale, whose AeroHub Master Plan targets the development of 50 acres; and Lockland, adjacent to Lincoln Heights, who is developing a former manufacturing site that will serve as a catalyst for that community with spillover into ours.

In addition to the State, key project partners and supporters include Hamilton County, NatureWorks, the Princeton School District and the Reds Community Fund.
