High School Demolition Set to Begin

High School Demolition Set to Begin

Demolition is set to begin soon on the abandoned Lincoln Heights High School, freeing up prime development land in the heart of the Village and removing an eyesore and safety hazard for residents.

Abating and demolishing the school was made possible by a nearly $1 million Hamilton County Impact Grant, which also aided road repair projects throughout the Village and made possible major upgrades to Memorial Field, one of the Village’s signature efforts. The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority is managing the demolition of the school.

The high school property, and the adjacent, abandoned, privately-owned Lincoln Heights Elementary School, are the two largest development sites in the Village. The approved Lincoln Heights land use plan envisions mixed uses and enhanced recreation facilities for these parcels to compliment the refurbished Memorial Field in a “Main and Main” strategy. The goal is create a vibrant, active development core in the heart of the Village. Demolition of the high school is a critical first step.

The Main and Main initiative is part of a broader revitalization strategy underway in Lincoln Heights that promises to yield many development opportunities. Lincoln Heights has great momentum and new leadership. The alignment of new partners such as the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners, The Port, HURC and other community supporters bode well for future growth. The Village’s prime location fronting I-75 makes it a natural area for investment, as do nearby projects like AeroHUB in Evendale, I-75 Thru-the-Valley improvements and efforts underway in neighboring communities.

The future is here for Lincoln Heights, residents, existing businesses and those who choose to be a part of it.
